here's the poem i ended up writing for lulu's birthday. it needs some work, but this is what i gave to her with the pledge that i would revise it at some point.
"Lulu, sweet lemon"
Lulu, my lemon, ma petite sœur, you are softly quite golden and stiffly unsure that good music can move you although it is sweet and you listen and feel that you can't take and eat but you can sugared mouthfuls say yes yes you can open caves and old locks and moss covered doors to new places shut tight those shined silvery shames and lone driveway pavements of frustrating names you don't need them you wander and know who you are who you are softly light it it burns to be lit melt to new and soon you'll be here again rolling being and leaving and staying in your speeding speeding smiles.
i don't know what made me go with the broken rhyme scheme, but it felt right when i started. the rhythm needs work, but it will come.
